Healthy Longevity

Asked a church leader that I respect what he would consider to be the keys to healthy longevity in ministry is. He replied:

Longevity in ministry in my experience is not a common thing.  It involves a combination factors that are difficult to maintain:  a true sense of God’s call and clear purpose from the Lord, the ability to weather discouragement and the continual wear and tear of ministry, a collection of lasting and healthy relationships that protect you from the isolation and character erosion of living out in front of people all the time, cultivated honesty and humility about who you are and what you are doing, and finally the magic ingredient of Christian living – choosing not to quit when you have opportunity to give up time and time again.
