For lent this year I am giving up internet. Wow.
For some people that would not be a big thing. For many people it would be as irrelevant as me giving up as giving up asparagus for lent. But for me it is big.
To put it plainly, I am addicted.
I check my email first thing in the morning and at least every hour, checking again immediately before going to bed. My Google Reader rss subscription monitors 84 feeds and is full every morning, usually with over a hundred articles. I keep a track of my feeds as regularly as I do my email. Information is the primary item in my diet.
So I’m giving it up for lent.
What does this mean? Please do not get offended if I don’t know what’s happening in your life because I haven’t been reading your blog, or your facebook status updates, or your bebo changes. Please do not get offended if I don’t poke you back. Please don’t get offended if I don’t reply to your emails.
If you do need to get hold of me, I will be using my work email account (firstname.lastname@example.org). If you feel so kind, do email me your blog posts, updating me on what’s happening. Or even better, let’s do coffee.
Except I’m giving up caffiene for lent too.
