Good Friday. Always a meaningful time.
Went to church this morning. Probably should have opted for a more reflective service. Stayed on alone after – tidied, worshiped, fixed the toilet and worshiped some more. Good space.
Headed downtown for a walk. Found myself in Te Papa up in the Colin McCahon gallery – a favourite recluse.
"Practical religion: the resurrection of Lazarus showing Mount Martha" is a big powerful work. 8m long, it contains the text (almost full) from John's account of Lazarus.
"I am the resurrection and I an life". Powerful words. I spent a lot of time staring and reading.
Finished it up with "A painting for Uncle Frank" which quotes from Hebrews. Beautiful.
"You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish but you remain… you remain the same and your years will never end."
"Therefore since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let up be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe, for our 'God is a consuming fire.'"
(when you're downtown, make sure to not miss this great 4th floor worship space)
